Education Pathways

Food and Horticultural Education

We create hands-on learning opportunities that build confidence, skills and pathways into employment. Through cooking and horticulture programs, people gain practical experience, connect with others and develop the knowledge needed to move into meaningful work.

Real Skills Real Pathways

Our education programs support people to build confidence and capability through practical, hands-on learning. Whether in the kitchen or the garden, participants develop skills that support independence, connection and pathways into employment.

Food Programs

Learning in the garden

Our horticulture programs are delivered through real-world, community-led growing environments. At Burwood Brickworks Rooftop Garden, participants learn practical skills while contributing to sustainable food systems and stronger local communities.

Burwood Brickworks Rooftop Garden is a partnership between Cultivating Community and Frasers Property, designed to create stronger, more connected neighbourhoods through shared green spaces and urban food production.

The 2,500 square metre rooftop has been transformed into a thriving urban farm through community engagement and sustainable design. It demonstrates how productive green spaces can be embedded into urban environments to support connection, wellbeing and local food systems.

We grow over 180 culturally significant plant varieties each year, tailored to local CALD communities. Our approach incorporates sustainable systems including active composting and garden-to-table practices that support long-term environmental outcomes.

Our team brings formal horticultural qualifications alongside extensive practical experience in urban food growing. With a strong focus on inclusive, community-led education, they support diverse participants to build skills and confidence in sustainable growing practices.

Spaces like the Rooftop Garden play an important role in responding to the climate crisis by promoting sustainable food production and reducing environmental impact. The project aligns with Melbourne’s Urban Agriculture Policy and contributes to global sustainability goals.
